Three modules in the tray

One selector, three states. The kit reads the page structure first — surfaces, text, borders, shadows — then re-derives colour instead of dropping a filter over the whole document. Media passes through untouched.

Smart Dark

Inverts surfaces, holds hue. Body text lands at a readable contrast, borders stay visible, and hard white panels drop to dusk navy. Photographs, video and canvas are excluded.

Auto

Follows the system signal and the schedule window. Dusk arrives, the kit arms itself. Dawn breaks, it stands down. No prompt, no reload.

Smart Light

Lifts murky pages to a flat, even field. For sites that ship a dim theme you did not ask for, and for daylight glare where washed-out grey text disappears.

Per-domain dials

Three calibrations, stored against the host. Trim a documentation site once; every page under that domain opens at the same setting. Sites you never touch keep the defaults.

    Drops the whole field for a dark room, or lifts it back for a lit desk.

    Separates text from surface. Useful on low-contrast greys and thin type.

    Warms the field toward lantern amber. Takes the blue edge off late reading.

    One switch drops the current host out of the kit. Everything else stays armed.

Dusk to dawn, unattended

Set the window once. The kit arms at your dusk mark and stands down at dawn, using the machine's local clock. Windows that cross midnight are handled.

Wraps midnight

A 21:00 → 07:00 window is read as one continuous night, not two broken halves.

No polling drift

The service worker schedules an alarm at each edge instead of waking on a timer.

Manual override

Hit the master arm and the kit obeys you until the next scheduled edge.

Local-only by construction

The kit has no server-side state to leak. Everything it decides, it decides in the tab. One anonymous heartbeat leaves the machine so we can count active installs.

Page structure is read and re-styled in the tab. Content, URLs, form values and dial positions stay in local extension storage on the device.

A periodic, anonymous heartbeat reports that an install is alive — nothing more. No page data, no browsing history, no identifier tied to you.

Nothing to sign into

No email, no profile, no sync service. Remove the extension and its storage goes with it. There is no record left on our side to delete.

Chrome 106 or newer. Manifest V3. The kit arms itself on first run in Auto.

STEP 02

Pin the panel

Pin Gloamkit to the toolbar so the diamond stays in reach, or use the hotkey.

STEP 03

Set your window

Open M3, arm the schedule, enter dusk and dawn. Then leave it alone.
