Gloamkit themes pages on your machine. It does not read, store or transmit the content of the pages you visit. One anonymous heartbeat is sent to gloam-kit.com so that active installs can be counted. There is no account, no login and no profile.
01 · Scope
This policy covers the Gloamkit browser extension ("the kit") and the website at gloam-kit.com. It describes what data the kit handles, where that data stays, and the single request the kit makes to our infrastructure.
By installing the kit you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, remove the extension — removal deletes its local storage.
02 · What stays on the device
All theming is computed in the browser at render time. The following is written to Chrome's local extension storage on your machine and is never transmitted:
- Appearance mode — Smart Dark, Auto or Smart Light.
- Dial positions — brightness, contrast and sepia values.
- Per-domain settings — the hostnames you have calibrated and their dial values.
- Cut-out list — hostnames you have switched out of the kit.
- Schedule — whether the window is armed, and its start and end times.
- Master arm state — whether the kit is armed or on standby.
Hostnames are stored so that a page can reopen with the settings you chose for it. They exist only in your browser profile, are not indexed by us, and are not sent anywhere.
03 · What leaves the device
The kit makes one kind of outbound request: a periodic anonymous heartbeat to gloam-kit.com. Its only purpose is to count how many installs are active, which is how we decide whether to keep maintaining the kit.
Contained in the heartbeat
- Extension version and browser major version.
- Coarse locale (for example
en) so we know which translations are in use. - A random, locally generated install token that carries no personal information.
Not contained in the heartbeat
- No URLs, hostnames, page titles or page content.
- No dial values, per-domain settings or cut-out list.
- No email address, name, account identifier or advertising identifier.
As with any HTTP request, our server sees the originating IP address at the transport layer. It is used for rate limiting and is not stored alongside the heartbeat record.
04 · Never collected
| Category | Status |
|---|---|
| Browsing history | Not collected |
| Page content, text or images | Not collected |
| Form input, passwords, cookies | Not collected |
| Location data | Not collected |
| Name, email or account | Not required, not collected |
| Advertising or cross-site identifiers | Not used |
| Sale or transfer of data to third parties | Never |
05 · Permissions
Chrome will list the following permissions at install. Each is used for one job.
| Permission | Why the kit needs it |
|---|---|
| storage | Save your modes, dials, per-domain settings and schedule locally. |
| alarms | Wake the service worker at the dusk and dawn edges of your window. |
| activeTab | Read the hostname of the tab you are looking at so the panel can show it. |
| windows | Apply the current state consistently across open browser windows. |
| Access to all sites | Restyle whichever page you are on. Required for any theming extension; the kit reads structure to re-derive colour and does not send that structure anywhere. |
| gloam-kit.com host access | Send the anonymous install heartbeat described in section 03. |
06 · Storage and retention
- On your device: settings persist until you change them or uninstall. Uninstalling removes the extension's storage with it.
- On our side: aggregated install counts are retained. Individual heartbeat records are discarded once aggregated, and in no case retained beyond 90 days.
- No backups of your settings exist on our infrastructure, because your settings never reach it.
There is no account to delete. To remove everything the kit holds, uninstall it from
chrome://extensions. Local storage is dropped by the browser at that point.
07 · Third parties
The kit contains no analytics SDK, no advertising library and no third-party tracker. The gloam-kit.com website loads web fonts from Google Fonts; requests for those font files reach Google's servers and are subject to Google's privacy terms. No other third-party asset is loaded by the site or the extension.
Distribution is handled by the Chrome Web Store, which reports install and rating statistics to us in aggregate. That data comes from Google, not from the kit.
08 · Children
The kit is a general-purpose display utility and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
09 · Changes
If this policy changes, the revision number and effective date at the top of this page are updated. Material changes to what data leaves the device will be noted in the extension's Web Store release notes. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.
